4 Common Cleaning Products You Should Never Mix
Commercial cleaning companies know about the correct cleaning products to use for your office space. Therefore, you don’t have to be concerned about inappropriate solutions.

However, there are some common cleaning products you should never mix. Because doing so makes a combination that can turn everyday cleaners into harmful or even toxic gases. In fact, combining certain products creates various chemical reactions.

Cleaning Products You Should Never Mix

The rule of thumb for any janitor is to read the warning and ingredient labels. This is not only important for you, but also for the space you’re cleaning and other people.

Given these points, here are some common cleaning products that you should never mix:

Ammonia and Bleach

If mixed together, these two products make chloramine. Chloramine is a toxic gas that causes watery eyes, breathing problems, coughing, and even shortness of breast along with chest pains.

So, remember to read product labels as window and glass cleaners contain ammonia and should never be mixed with bleach.

Bleach and Rubbing Alcohol

Mixing bleach and rubbing alcohol together results in chloroform; a harmful product.

It’s possible that it won’t cause you to pass out. However, this chemical combination can wreak havoc on the nervous system. Additionally, it will also cause irritation to any part of your body it comes in contact with.

FACT:  Bleach and rubbing alcohol produce hydrochloric acid when they are mixed together.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

This combination of cleaners can be found all over the internet. In addition to them being natural cleaners, they are a staple in our pantries. Individually, they are used for numerous types of cleaning including deodorizing office carpets. Thus, on their own, these products work great.

Vinegar is acidic. And baking soda is well, basic. When put together you get sodium acetate and mostly water.

FACT:  If stored in a closed container, these combined products can explode.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar

These two products should never be mixed in the same container. Their combination produces peracetic acid which can irritate the eyes, respiratory system, and skin. It is also potentially toxic.
